Because the gap between the gear end face and the housing end cover is very small, and the gap between the gear tooth tip and the inner surface of the housing is also very small, it can be regarded as dividing the gear pump housing into two sealed chambers on the left and right. When the gear rotates in the direction shown in the figure, the gear on the right gradually disengages, exposing the teeth. Therefore, the volume of the sealed cavity on this side gradually increases to form a partial vacuum. The oil in the oil tank enters this cavity through the suction port of the pump under the action of atmospheric pressure, so this cavity is called the oil suction cavity. As the gear rotates, the oil in each tooth is carried from the right to the left. In the sealed cavity on the left, the gear teeth gradually enter into engagement, so that the volume of the sealed cavity on the left gradually decreases. The cavity where the oil between the teeth is squeezed out from the oil pressure port is called the oil pressure cavity. When the gear pump continuously rotates, the suction and pressure ports of the gear pump continuously suck and press oil, realizing the process of delivering oil to the hydraulic system. In a gear pump, the oil suction area and the oil pressure area are separated by meshing gear teeth and the pump body, so there is no separate oil distribution mechanism.
